HELLO!

I'M ROXY GODDARD.

THE FOUNDER OF BAKED BY POPPY.

Yes, my name is Roxy, not Poppy. I know that is slightly confusing but Baked by Poppy was born as an ambitious dream in 2018 and the name just stuck. And here we are, almost 3 years later.

My love for all things cake started when I was a little girl and my granny taught me how to bake gingerbread cookies in her kitchen and it has only grown from there. Since then YouTube and a lot of trial and error have been the making of what is now a pretty decent culinary skill set.

Baked by Poppy is my love for baking come to life and I am a one woman show. I bake the cakes, respond to your queries and clean the kitchen (yes, baking makes a big mess) and I love engaging with all of you cake lovers and making your cake dreams come true.

I believe that cakes should be as delicious as they are beautiful!

So get in touch and let's chat about some cake.

  • Where are you located?
Baked by Poppy is an online bake shop and therefore doesn't have a store front. The bakery is located in Sea Point, Cape Town, which is where collections take place. We do not offer appointments, all consultations take place over the phone or via mail.
  • How does the ordering & payment process work?
Once we have finalised your order details, you will receive an invoice. All invoices are to be paid in full to secure the order, after which your order will be confirmed. Wedding cakes are the exception; a 50% deposit is required to secure the date, with the balance due two weeks prior to the event.
  • What determines the price of my cake?
Cake price is dependent on size, flavour and design. You can view the price range for each cake size here.
  • How far in advance should I order my cake?
We reccommend ordering at least two weeks in advance. We may be able to squeeze your sweet treat in with less notice but this is not guaranteed.
  • What flavours do you offer?
We offer all the classics; chocolate, vanilla, salted caramel, citrus, carrot etc. But you can also request any weird and wonderful flavour you may enjoy and we will try our best to accomodate you. Get inspired here.
  • Do you offer gluten-free & vegan options?
Certain cakes lend themselves to being gluten-free more than others, so if you require a gluten free option add that as a note and we will advise if it is posssible. Unfortunately, we do not offer any vegan options.
  • What style cakes do you offer?
Our passion lies in beautifully curated buttercream cakes. If you would like some inspo and to see what we've done take a look at our Instagram page.
  • Can I order fondant or novelty cakes?
Unfortunately not, Baked by Poppy focuses on buttercream cakes only.
  • Do you offer delivery?
Typically cakes are collected from Sea Point. However, delivery can be arranged at the AA rate of R3,61/km, given the destination is within a 75km radius of Sea Point.
  • How should I transport my cake?
Your cake should always be transported on a flat surface, like in front of the passenger seat on the floor of your car. Don't ever place a cake on a slanted car seat. For larger cakes you can place them in the boot of the car. Always drive very slowly, no sharp corners or slamming on the brakes!
  • How should I store & serve my cake?
Your cake should be stored in the fridge until about 3 hours before your event. You should then allow it to come to room temperature before cutting. Never place your cake in the sun, the butter will melt and you will end up with a big mess.
